Hiring Canadian or Mexican professionals on TN?

TN status is the simplest way for a U.S. employer to hire a Canadian or Mexican citizen in one of the professions on the USMCA list. Here is what it takes, and how to reach us.

What TN asks of an employer

No lottery, no annual cap

Unlike H-1B, TN has no lottery and no yearly quota. When the job is open and the candidate qualifies, you can hire.

No petition or wage filing

A Canadian applies at the border and a Mexican at the consulate: no petition is required, and there is no Labor Condition Application or prevailing wage filing.

A support letter for a listed profession

Your part is a letter on company letterhead: the TN profession the job falls under, the duties, the education required, the start date and length (up to three years), the pay and where the work happens. The job has to fit one of the professions on the USMCA list.

Start dates can be fast

A Canadian hire can start within days. A Mexican hire can start in a few weeks, once the consular appointment is done.

If you would hire on TN, say so in the posting: “TN candidates are welcome; we provide the support letter.” We read every posting for exactly this and list the jobs that say it first.
